Heather & Thistle

Behold, the most wondrous show beyond my train window.
A welcome sight greets me—Scotland’s bonniest beauties,
Waving proudly and majestically.
Sweeping hills, verdant glens, sapphire lochs—
The perfect foil for the lavender and purple hues
Of wildflowers, glorious in their display.
Exhilaration fills me, my gaze fixed, my attention rapt.
I’m utterly captivated by yet another magnificent treasure
Of Mother Nature’s hand.

Fluffy white sheep and nut-brown hairy coos
Gaze peacefully, their eyes curious,
As the metallic blue coaches whizz speedily by.
The peerless beauty of the Highlands resonates deep within,
As though awakening a secret, buried history.
My soul celebrates, as it did at birth,
Acknowledging the miracle of life,
God’s mysterious handiwork laid bare before me.

I’m filled with awe, with gratitude
For the blessing of witnessing this unspoiled tableau,
A stunning glimpse of heaven on Earth.
As the train carries me onward, I hold this moment close,
A quiet reverence, a whispered prayer,
Thankful for the beauty that stirs both land and soul.
